Write Up: This was a fun project from the beginning. The client purchased a beautiful home from the first decade of the 1900s and asked us to assist in a major addition.

We spent a lot of time trying to see if we could keep with the traditional aesthetic and decided it would be best to make something more modern and respectfully maintain the charming portions of the existing.

I was part of the team throughout the process, but really had to buckle down for the stair documentation. The team wanted to ensure the new stair going into the center of the home would be built correctly and respect the house’s current level of detail.

I was tasked with establishing a wood stair construction with the added support of structural steel. I spent time modeling the stair (as shown in the Process Images) to make sure the details being drawn would accurately apply to the many different conditions a stair presents.

The contractor acknowledged the details were thorough and aided the construction of stair.
